Our team comprises self-starters and highly skilled young men and women.
They strongly believe in development at the base despite adversities in Guinea.
With over eight years of experience in the non-profit sector, Sekou has made a significant impact on social change initiatives through Research, Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning. As a co-founder of Jeune Espoir, his work has led to tangible improvements in the lives of the communities JE serves. This dedication and success led to his selection for both the YALI program for a civic leadership institute at Rutgers University (2014) and a Fulbright scholarship for an MA in Sustainable Development at SIT Graduate Institute (2017). During his MA studies in the U.S., Sekou worked for IREX as a research intern and a program associate. Since graduating from SIT, Sekou has consulted for IREX from Guinea and coordinated several USAID studies in Guinea, including an IDA analysis, a DRG assessment, and youth situational research. Sekou is the primary administrator at Jeune Espoir and is responsible for the organization's strategic partnership development.
Sidy's BA in applied mathematics and over five years of accounting experience have prepared him for his multifaceted role at Jeune Espoir. His meticulous bookkeeping ensures all expenses are recorded and verifiable, while his adept management of the organization's payroll system is commendable. However, it is his leadership skills that truly shine as he manages the 60 to 70 people who come daily to the headquarters of Jeune Espoir in the organization's various programs. He is a key figure in enrolment, tracking presences, and organizing certification ceremonies.
Aissata holds a BA in English studies and has devoted over three years to teaching English as a second language for Jeune Espoir. In 2023, she demonstrated her commitment by completing a practicum at Digital Promise Global in Washington, DC, as part of her participation in IREX's Community Engagement Exchange, a program funded by the U.S. State Department. At Digital Promise, Aissata honed her leadership, project management, and digital inclusion skills. She supported the development of a course that focuses on initiating teachers living in low-tech environments to blended learning. For her follow-on project, Aissata, her Digital Promise supervisor, and the Jeune Espoir team initiated 20 rural Guinean teachers to Powerful Blended Learning (PBL). In FY 2024-25, in collaboration with Digital Promise, Aissata and her Jeune Espoir team will initiate 40 more teachers to PBL and equip them with the necessary tools to run PBL classes.
Boubacar has a BA in Electronics Engineering and over eight years of experience teaching math, physics, and chemistry at various middle and high schools in Guinea. He joined Jeune Espoir in 2016 to tutor students. Boubacar and his Jeune Espoir team have tutored over 300 adolescents. While the general pass rate for the national exams in Guinea is below 50%, 95% of the students Boubacar tutored succeeded. Also, as part of his work for Jeune Espoir, Boubacar develops locally relevant digital content for students and teachers in Guinea. He has significantly contributed to creating digital versions of the country's high school key math and science courses. Additionally, Boubacar and his Jeune Espoir team built STEM Lab Sheets for high and middle schools in partnership with Guinea Promise. This U.S.-based organization promotes STEM within schools in Guinea.
