As in most Guinean cities, the success rate in Dalaba for passing the Bac and Brevet examinations is generally below 50%. This reflects limited mastery of the curriculum and the lack of consistent academic support available to many students.

Jeune Espoir responded by combining tutoring with locally relevant digital content. With support from the U.S. Embassy in Guinea, Resonate Global Mission, and individual donors, the organization trained young professionals in e-learning content design and began transforming key Guinean high-school mathematics and science courses into interactive digital resources.

Between 2019 and 2022, the team developed key high-school courses and made them available through a progressive web application. The resources were designed to go beyond rote memorization through explanations, images, narration, interaction, simulations, projects, and different forms of assessment. During FY 2023–24, the team also developed a substantial portion of the corresponding middle-school material.

The content is designed for Guinea’s curriculum and for environments where internet access is unreliable. Students can use locally hosted or downloadable resources, study offline, and connect periodically to synchronize their work. Teachers can integrate the resources into face-to-face lessons, assign activities, and offer students additional practice.

Jeune Espoir’s work with Digital Promise and Learning Equality has further strengthened this approach. A computer lab and Kolibri server at a partner school in Dalaba allow learners to access digital materials without constant internet connectivity. Teachers organize students into smaller learning groups and combine discussions, vocabulary practice, digital activities, and guided work.

Locally relevant content matters because learners understand more deeply when examples, language, curriculum, and delivery methods reflect their realities. It also gives rural teachers practical tools for creating active and collaborative classrooms and gives students opportunities to practice, create, analyze, and apply what they learn.
