Program Description
SLIC is designed around findings from the USAID/Guinea Youth Situational Analysis (2020) and research on factors that allow young Guineans to find or create decent employment. It responds to young people’s primary aspiration: gaining or creating decent work that improves their livelihoods.
Jeune Espoir works closely with cohorts of youth. Participants study principles of economic life, basic accounting, responsible resource management, and practical business ideas for sub-Saharan Africa. They choose and design a business, receive structured one-on-one coaching, and may be presented to donors through fundraising campaigns.
When donors support a participant’s campaign, the funds allocated to that project are used directly for the selected enterprise. Coaching helps participants use resources responsibly and build strategies for sustainable success.
Program Projects
Our First SLIC Cohort
Goal: Help at least four of six young entrepreneurs identify and create prosperous and environmentally conscious businesses.
In FY 2023–24, Jeune Espoir introduced a group of local entrepreneurs to selected SLIC material, including principles of economic life and responsible resource management. The next phase takes participants through all stages of the program.
Core activities
- Review principles of economic life and responsible resource management.
- Provide basic-accounting training and research practical business ideas.
- Guide each participant in choosing and designing an enterprise.
- Present suitable enterprises through fundraising campaigns.
- Provide one-on-one mentorship for sustainable success.
