Program Description

Our initiative aims to improve student learning and economic outcomes in Guinea by training teachers in Powerful Blended Learning and equipping them with the resources needed to implement it.

PBL combines digital and face-to-face instruction, engaging students and making them active participants in their learning. It personalizes learning and makes it accessible, authentic, challenging, collaborative, connected, inquisitive, and reflective. It also builds employability skills and readiness for the workplace.

In partnership with Digital Promise, Jeune Espoir developed a PBL training course and piloted it with 20 educators in Dalaba in December 2023. In addition to teacher training, we provide locally relevant digital resources, including digital formats of Guinean mathematics and science courses that can be used through offline-first tools.

Program Projects
Initiating Teachers to Powerful Blended Learning
Goal: Equip teachers with practical knowledge of PBL and the resources to run powerful blended-learning classes successfully.

In December 2023, Digital Promise and Jeune Espoir piloted a course they developed together. The training strengthened participating educators’ confidence in using technology and active-learning strategies.

Jeune Espoir continues supporting teachers, monitoring classroom practice, and helping them assemble PBL toolboxes. Lessons from the pilot support expansion to additional educators in Dalaba and surrounding communities.

Core activities

  • Support trained teachers as they assemble and use their PBL toolboxes.
  • Monitor progress and provide coaching as teachers apply PBL in their classrooms.
  • Use lessons and resources from the pilot to train additional rural educators.
  • Help teachers create learning zones and select appropriate digital tools for their subjects.
Relevant Digital Content for Middle and High School
Goal: Give middle- and high-school students and their teachers access to digital versions of key mathematics and science courses aligned with the Guinean curriculum.

Between 2016 and 2018, with support from the U.S. Embassy in Guinea, Resonate Global Mission, and individual donors, Jeune Espoir trained young professionals in e-learning content design. Between 2019 and 2022, the team developed key mathematics and science courses at the high-school level and made them available through a progressive web application. During FY 2023–24, the team developed a substantial portion of the corresponding middle-school content.

The organization is now migrating and curating resources for offline-first learning platforms so that teachers and learners can use them even where internet connectivity is unreliable.

Core activities

  • Build interactive digital lessons aligned with the Guinean curriculum.
  • Add multiple quizzes and opportunities for practice to each lesson.
  • Distribute resources through mobile devices, computer labs, and local learning servers.
  • Train teachers to assign and use content as part of face-to-face instruction.

Launched the Jeune Espoir Learning App

With partner and donor support, Jeune Espoir launched a mobile app through which students could download content, study offline, and later synchronize their progress.
