Program Description

Our initiative aims to boost student learning and economic outcomes in Guinea by training teachers in Powerful Blended Learning and equipping them with the resources needed to implement it. PBL combines digital and face-to-face instruction, engages students, and makes them active participants in their learning.

In collaboration with Digital Promise, we developed a PBL training course and piloted it with 20 educators in Dalaba in December 2023. We also provide teachers with locally relevant digital resources, including digital versions of key Guinean high-school mathematics and science courses that can be used online or offline.

Program Projects
Initiating 60 Teachers to PBL
Goal: Equip 60 teachers to plan and facilitate powerful blended-learning experiences.

In December 2023, Digital Promise and Jeune Espoir piloted a jointly developed PBL course with twenty educators from Dalaba. Participants learned how technology can strengthen pedagogy, increase learner engagement, and support classroom learning zones.

After the pilot, Jeune Espoir planned to continue supporting the participating teachers, monitor their progress, help them assemble practical PBL toolboxes, and extend the training to 40 additional teachers in Dalaba and surrounding communities.

  • Train educators in PBL principles and active-learning strategies.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and a professional learning community.
  • Help teachers identify appropriate digital tools and locally relevant content.
  • Track classroom implementation and lessons learned.
Locally Relevant Digital Content
Goal: Give middle- and high-school students and teachers access to digital versions of key mathematics and science courses.

Between 2019 and 2022, Jeune Espoir developed digital versions of key mathematics and science courses at the Guinean high-school level and made them available through a progressive web application. During FY 2023–24, the team developed a substantial part of the corresponding middle-school content.

Core activities

  • Develop interactive digital lessons aligned with the Guinean curriculum.
  • Add multiple quizzes and practice opportunities to each lesson.
  • Distribute content through offline-first tools and local learning servers.
  • Support teachers to integrate the resources into face-to-face instruction.

With partner and donor support, Jeune Espoir launched a mobile learning app through which students can download content, study offline, and later synchronize their progress.

The team developed digital versions of key mathematics and science courses for Guinean high-school students and teachers.
