The organization is governed by a board of directors (B.O.D.) of honest men and women passionate about Guinea's holistic development. The B.O.D. is responsible for the NGO's general policy. It assigns the organization's day-to-day responsibilities to staff and holds them accountable for efficiently and transparently managing Jeune Espoir's resources. The BOD receives no remuneration other than reasonable expenses.
Joyce Ribbens Campbell has worked for human development and justice her entire career with the following NGOs and government offices: the Environmental Defense Fund, the Center for Public Justice, and the office of U.S. Senator Mark Hatfield in Washington, D.C.; the Sioux County (Iowa) Attorney’s office; the Cranwell International Center at Virginia Tech University; and Resonate Global Mission (RGM) in Guinea. Among other responsibilities when working for RGM in Guinea, she helped to found the Center of Hope, where she served on its board, taught English, helped to set up and administer its computer center and its micro-enterprise and relief programs, and led the youth group which was the precursor of Jeune Espoir.
Jutta Cowie is a dedicated professional with a rich background in both healthcare and international development. A qualified nurse in Germany, Jutta served for 15 years in various medical capacities, gaining extensive experience and expertise. For the past 20 years, Jutta has been an international development worker, with a notable tenure at Mercy Ships, where she focused on women's empowerment. While working in Guinea, she concentrated on addressing period poverty for young girls aged 10 to 14, making a significant impact on their lives. It was during her time with Mercy Ships that she met her husband, Andy. Jutta’s interests include reading, hiking, crocheting, and knitting. This September, she will begin a theology course in preparation to become a Baptist minister, reflecting her commitment to faith and service.
Brenda Vander Schuur has 42 years of experience in West Africa. In Sierra Leone, under the auspices of World Renew, she set up, led, and nationalized an adult literacy program. She also served on the Field Executive Council. At various times during her tenure in Guinea with Resonate Global Mission (RGM), she has served as an educator, mentor, consultant, field director, bookkeeper, and administrator. She is a co-founder and current administrator of the Center of Hope, as well as the leadership development, micro-enterprise, social assistance, and educational programs of RGM.
David Campbell taught in the Communication Studies department at Dordt College in Northwest Iowa from 1982 to 1988. From 1989 to 2013, working for Resonate Global Mission (La Mission Protestante Reformée) in the town of Dalaba in Guinea, he produced radio programs and a variety of other recordings in Pular. The radio programs were broadcast on Radio Rurale Stations in Labe and Mamou and on several other stations.
Andy Cowie has been an International Development Worker for the last 22 years with a background in mechanical engineering, specializing in light motor vehicles. He served with Mercy Ships as transportation manager, where he met his wife, Jutta. He has taught English and is known for his practical skills. Andy's dedication to volunteering and serving Christ has taken him to various countries, enriching his global perspective. Andy enjoys hiking, reading, and spending time with friends. Andy’s life reflects his commitment to service, technical expertise, and a love for adventure.
